Viral Marketing in Affiliate Marketing
In affiliate marketing, one of the best strategies in increasing the sales is to conduct viral marketing.  How can an affiliate conduct viral marketing?

The core goal of affiliate marketing is to spread the awareness of the public of a certain product or range of products.  This is why the content of the affiliate’s website must be informative and must make the URL be listed or ranked high by search engines.  But content may not be enough for the affiliate marketing to be successful.  This is because the world of e-commerce is a highly competitive environment.

The affiliate, therefore, must be creative in his marketing strategies.  And one of the most creative means of promoting awareness of the products of an Internet company is the method known as viral marketing.  This viral marketing, like affiliate marketing, is not a new method.  But it has flourished due to the advantages offered by the Internet technology.  The Internet provides a more efficient means of conducting viral marketing.

Viral marketing, as it name implies, is a method of spreading information about a product, just like the way a disease is spread by a virus.  Of course, the information spread out by viral marketing is not harmful like the diseases.  But the efficiency and seemingly unstoppable way of viruses can be copied in the process of viral marketing.  In a sense, viral marketing is simply spreading the word about a product.

Viral marketing involves several techniques.  One is the use of emails sent to people whose email addresses have been provided by one person.  This person is already acquainted with the product and since he wanted his friends to also know about the product, he provides the email addresses of these friends to the advertising arm of the Internet company. 

The advertising arm, of course, is the affiliate of the Internet company.  Some people may think that such emails are spam and will be blocked.  This is not true.  Such emails simply provide information about the product and the email addresses to which the information is sent was provided by someone known to the recipients.  This is why the headings of the email start with the name of the recipient.

Another technique of viral marketing is the giving away of freebies.  The affiliate must come up with useful information that can be used by the visitors.  This useful information is not a repetition of the contents of the affiliate’s website.  But this information can be accessed and downloaded by the visitors.  When a visitor acquires free information from an affiliate’s website, he will again visit such website. As time goes by, he develops loyalty for the website that gave him relevant and important information.

Therefore, the affiliate must take the time to place important chunks of information in PDF that can be downloaded by visitors.  Such PDF files can certainly increase the compensation of the affiliate.  Of course, this strategy is a long-term one.  This means that the affiliate may not see instantaneous results.  But through time, when the word has spread, the sales will increase.
