In affiliate marketing, the usual procedure done by most affiliates is to redirect the visitors of their websites to the website of the Internet company that they are promoting.  This is an effective enough way of earning income, but an affiliate can do more.  That is, he can earn more income from such visitors, and even from visitors that don’t proceed to the website of the Internet company.

Such income is called “residual income”.  How is residual income possible in affiliate marketing?  First of all, an affiliate must know what is a residual income.  A residual income may be passive income or recurring income.  And both can certainly happen in the field of affiliate marketing.

Passive income happens when the affiliate has done nothing to actively and specifically pre-sell to the client.  That is, the affiliate has not created new changes to his website.  And he has not linked to a new Internet company that may respond to certain needs of a client.  What the affiliate simply did is send an email.

The recurring income, on the other hand, happens when there is a client who has already purchased a product.  Since this client has already purchased a product that has been recommended by the affiliate, this client will likely be more open to more recommendations from the same affiliate.  This client will buy again, but this time, the product is something different.  Again, all the affiliate did is to send an email.

For both passive and recurring incomes, the main instrument of the affiliate is the email.  In other words, the most important tool of having residual income in affiliate marketing is the technology called email.  This implies that the affiliate must have his own email list.

How will an affiliate have his own email list?  There are three approaches to build his email list.  First, in his website, the affiliate must have a page or link to a subscription form.  Obviously, when a person subscribes, he will enter his email address.

Second, the affiliate may use co-registrations.  He will share email addresses with another entity that compiles the email addresses.  An alternative to co-registrations is the utilization of the co-op marketing campaigns.

And third, the affiliate may obtain email lists from online companies that specialize in collecting emails.  Of course, the affiliate must pay for such email lists.

When the affiliate has his email list, he can send multiple offers to them.  Such multiple offers will lead to residual income.  In time, the amount earned from residual income will be significant enough that the affiliate will finally have his financial freedom.
